The young superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer movie, which gives at most justice to its title and caption, a helpless but valiant father in pursuit of his missing daughter and his quest for some answers through shadowy and Enigmatic meadows of Scotland.Plot Of The Story.

The plot starts off somewhere in the greenish landscapes of Scotland, the director gave us no clue with the happenings in the prologue other than a bloody hands searching for something inside a lonely jeep parked by the side of a highway, But the mood was very much clear, Adam’s journey was filled with much bloodsheds and quests. The story then suddenly shifted to some wealthy streets of Scotland and to an Old church from there to Unni (Rahul Madhav), his wife Swetha (Bhavana), and their daughter ela, much peaceful moments.. The momentum of his pleasant life was all destroyed when someone took their daughter away by killing his mother. Unni’s elder brother, an emotional Adam Joan (Prithviraj) enters the plot at mother’s funeral, the much awaited adam’s intro was very well apt to the mood of the situation. His macho look and intense grief filled eyes added more desperateness to the character. Adam’s quest begins, a long trail in to the dark side of the most beautiful city in the world. Narien plays the role of Cyriac, a truthful and loyal friend of adam, while Lena plays a suspicious character Daisy. The flick also have many Scottish actors in the lead.

Adam’s story has two major phase, first, a wealthy planter hailing from Kottayam falling in love with Jewish Amy, their wedding, and honeymoon trip to Scotland, unexpected pregnancy and finally her death, Adam leaving his daughter with his brother and family. Adam’s romantic journey ends here. The second phase marks his return to Scotland as a helpless and much emotional stricken father, desperate
in search of his daughter, trailing in to the deep dark secrets of the city.

Cast And Performance.

Prithviraj flaunted his best as the AdamJoan Pothen, his macho physique and intense dialogue delivery made the character come to life. Emotions of a helpless father who crucifies himself in guilt of leaving his daughter and desperate in search of her were very much palpable. Prithvi was phenomenal in enacting the role with ease and proved why he is the best in choosing the right screenplay and characters, also, this could probably the best character, he has ever portrayed in recent years.
Climax stunts, unfortunately which was touted as the best in the movie were simply comical. Heroic moves and high power stunt sequences with Prithvi & villains were very much below power. It was more like falling in the race track just before the finishing line. It could have avoided, otherwise Adam Joan would have rocked the theatres much more I guess.

Technical Side.

Musical department both background and songs deserves a great amount of appreciations. Deepak Dev’s Midas touch with music continues as the songs in this flick were simply magical. Adam’s love song clearly added the romantic mood of the scenes to some higher level while Prithvi’s own solo was very much vital in conveying the emotions of the father. Background Scores by Gopi Sundar have definitely taken audience to the dark streets of the city, with immense punch and maintained the ambience of the story throughout darker.
Jithu Damodar , the director of photography have done his work best, the shadowy streets, greenish yarns and darker woods of Scotland were come to life with his amazing frames.

Finally , All credits to the debutant Jinu Abraham, who have pulled the rabbit out of the hole, he deserves greater appreciation for selecting a darker and challenging story and conceiving it to one of the best thrillers of Malayalam film industry.

The movie was not all about revenge and darkness but also, it indirectly conveys the unbreakable bond between a father and daughter. A father’s love, responsibility and determination for his daughter’s security and faith. The movie once again proved that for every daughter, her father is a SUPERMAN..!!
Though the director gave very less in the prologue but the epilogue of the movie was really emotional. The tail end sequences and parting words made the movie absolute classy and left the audience in goosebumps.
To sum up, ADAM JOAN is definitely a significant addition to the dark thrillers of Indian Film Industry.
If you are keen in dark thrillers, then, at least in this Onan season, you need not go for Hollywood entries, we have our own Hollywood level flick in theater near you…!!And if you are really in mood for some typical family movie, ADAM JOAN never gonna disappoint also
